If Chipotle burritos have a flaw, it’s their sheer size. One burrito is way too big for a single meal but not always enough for a second, depending on your appetite and interest in cold leftovers. There’s an easy solution: Order a bowl instead, with an extra tortilla or two on the side.
The only Chipotle hack worth knowing
This trick has probably been around as long as Chipotle has, and if you didn’t already know about it, you’re missing out. The bowls at Chipotle and other restaurants usually cost about as much as burritos, but they can hold way more stuff: More meat, more beans, more rice, and significantly more salsa. A side of tortillas easily stretches the contents of a bowl into two (or more) smaller burritos, and costs less than a dollar. It used to be free, but Chipotle has been charging 25 cents per extra tortilla since October 2020—hardly a dealbreaker, if you ask me.
As fast-food hacks go, this one is both effective and low-impact, which makes it a winner. You’re not upending the entire ordering system (and being a huge pain in the ass) just to save a couple bucks on your meal—you’re ordering a regular menu item with another one on the side. Everyone gets what they want: An extra meal or two out of your Chipotle order for you, and a normal, stress-free customer interaction for the person behind the counter.
The only possible downside to this method—if you can even call it one—is the surcharge for extra tortillas. Paying less than a dollar more for two to four burritos is still a great deal, but if you’d rather not do it, just get your bowl to go and use your own tortillas at home. You’ll still get all the benefits of the burrito bowl hack, without having to cough up extra money.
